Unless there's a major software update in the mean time, the next version of OpenDisc will roll out for the holiday season, late November to early December.
Once everything has settled down, I'll work out a roadmap for predictable OpenDisc releases.

Is there a plan for the actual release date? What can I do to help it get off the ground?

There'll be an announcement about it later on, but the migration to Kiwix has eaten development time up so the next version won't be out until early January unfortunately. :(
Everybody has been helping out where they can, so there's only the matter of a few screenshots left to take. See "Help Wanted; Screen Captures" for more information.
Expect a full summary later on. :)
