KompoZer is a community fork of Nvu since the development of Nvu was stopped.

    The following are from Wikipedia:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nvu

"Daniel Glazman announced on September 15, 2006 that he has stopped official development on Nvu and he is developing a successor to it, tentatively called Composer (or Mozilla Composer 2.0), as a Mozilla.org project. ..... A community-driven fork, KompoZer, maintains Nvu codebase and fixes bugs until a successor to Nvu is released."

"In 2007, Nvu was removed from Ubuntu Feisty repositories because it was no longer maintained upstream."

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KompoZer

"In March 2007 it was featured on Download.com's round up on the best free alternatives to Adobe CS3, where it was favorably compared to Adobe Dreamweaver."

The latest version of KompoZer is 0.7.10 released on August 30, 2007.

  2. I wanted to include this in 07.10 but ran out of time, because I had to package it in an installer. Since Nvu is well and truly not in development I think KompoZer is a decent replacement.

Another good candidate for Web editing is Amaya http://www.w3.org/Amaya/

  5. I also think KompoZer should replace Nvu, I heard some talk that Nvu development was starting back up, but I'm not sure if this is true.

And I'd never seen Amaya, looks good, though I'd still prefer to stick with Nvu or KompoZer.
