How to create a derived CD?

Hi, I'm creating a DVD with FLOSS software. Until now I've been using OpenCD as my base but I failed to find any documentation on how the CD was created.
Is there any place I can find how the OpenDisc is created? Are all changes made by hand or is there a tool one can use?

    Thanks

The directions I followed for my derived CD don't appear to be online anymore, and I didn't keep a copy of them. However, you might check out http://cdbrowserkit.sourceforge.net/ which had some of the instructions. I think I had to kind of look off these instructions while looking at the structure of a TheOpenCD to come up with what ultimately worked for me (which I haven't changed since), but unfortunately, I didn't document my steps. This got the browser working on a CD, the actual pages had to be developed by me, which I change using Nvu/KompoZer.

Of course, maybe someone actually working on TheOpenDisc might have better instructions. I don't pretend to be a part of this project, just a fan.

  3. It's on the to-do list, but fairly far back due to our plan to replace the antiquated system. I'll see if I have an old set of instructions somewhere, but as far as I remember that was before my time. :(

I'm thinking of expanding the translation wiki to feature (non-translation) normal pages, so people can collaborate to create things like a derivative guide.

Hey I was thinking of making a derived CD based on the OpenCD. Does anyone know what the policy is on derived CDs? I know the team encourages us to distribute the CD, but I'm not sure if they would mind us distributing a modified CD. Does anyone know?

If you want the legal answer, if I'm not mistaken, the disc is GPLv2'd, which means that you would be able to freely make a derived CD, so long as the derived CD is also GPLv2'd (or a compatible license), that all notices regarding licensing and warranties are kept intact, and that any changes are documented with dates in some form or fashion. The legal print is here: http://www.fsf.org/licensing/licenses/info/GPLv2.html

I wouldn't think Chris would mind individuals making derived copies... you were given that right when he licensed it as GPLv2.

On another note... now that I think of it, it could be necessary to make yet another change to that convoluted shell script to note on the CD that VLC was removed in the created derived copy... that could be accomplished, I suppose, by just copying the patch into the CD Tree after applying it...

I was already clear on the legal implications and the rights/restrictions involved. So I wasn't really worried about the legality. What I was more interested in was whether the team would mind.
While I know it isn't required, I always like to get the input of the creators when I modify open source software. Especially if I'm not planning for it to be only for my own use.
